Encouragement
Do you need some encouragement? We’ve got lots!
While I believe with my whole being that adoption is the most beautiful thing in this world, it is hard. It take a toll on you mentally, emotionally, physically. There are sleepless nights worrying about the homestudy, how your soon-to-be child is feeling that night, if they feel loved, if the government in a different country is going to approve the adoption, if the questions are answered correctly, if the funds will become available… the list goes on and on.
There are a lot of ups and down in this beautiful journey. We want this to be a place of encouragement, light & hope.
Stick around for a while, grab a cup or tea (or coffee!) and take a minute to receive some encouragement.
Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
- Emily & Owen - Christian Family Care Blog on Encouragement for those pursuing adoption
Not only does this verse remind me that God supplied all of the financial needs we had related to our adoptions, but he has continued to pour out his riches of his glory in Christ Jesus by giving us strength day by day (sometimes moment by moment) to parent all six of our children. Parenting is hard work and we need Jesus’ infinite wisdom to guide them in the way they should go. Lastly, he has lavished extravagant love in our hearts as a gift towards our children’s first families and has given us the capacity to keep open hands and hearts to welcome them regularly into our lives. These are not things that we have done or accomplished but transformations from walking through our adoption journey and Christ sustaining us along the way. Truly tangible experiences of God supplying all of our needs.
Foster care is risky. Adoption is risky. Love itself is always risky.”
-Orphan Justice
There is always risk but he journey, the children, the end reward far outweighs any cons. Don’t stop because you are scared of this risk. There is a saying that goes “without risk comes no reward”, and that is never more true than with adoption. It is a beautiful, scary, selfless, holy journey.
This child was always meant to be a part of our family..
For this child was prayed for, dreamed of, waited on and prepared for. It wasn’t until you were in our arms that we realized all that God had truly done to get us to this point. You were always meant to be ours. Now we see that God had a plan and a path for you and our family. It takes blind trust and faith to get through this process but the end is something so breathtakingly beautiful it will bring you to your knees. Deep gratitude for how this journey grew, challenged and completed our family, in all the best ways.

Using your child’s story as encouragement
”Your child’s adoption story is an opportunity to build connection and trust with your child.”Biological families aren’t a threat
”Adoptive parents can be encouraged today that your child’s connection to their biological family does not threaten your relationship. In fact, their relationship complements it instead. Without a doubt, the hardest thing for me to overcome as an adoptive parent was recognizing I could not demand that my daughter loves me above her biological family. That’s pride. That’s selfishness. My daughter loves her biological family and should. There will always be a connection, a desire to know more, a yearning to know ‘what if.”Leaning into the best example for adoption
”Adoptive parents can be encouraged today because they have the greatest example of an adoptive parent: God himself.”
“Adoption created out of necessity and love is an ocean of grief mixed with the wild desire to move forward. We have to feel it all.”
– Anne Heffron, Adoptee
“The adoption was challenging – the love arrived instantly.”
