FAQ’s

(Frequent Adoption Questions)

  • Can you mail/email the grant application?

The grant application is only available through our website/link, and only available when the application period is open. If you have questions on what to expect on the application, please feel free to reach out!

  • Who is eligible to apply for a ONE17 grant?

Families or singles who have a completed home study (or home study update if this is not your first adoption), have an agreement with a 501c3 licensed adoption agency and are PRE-placement.

  • What kind of adoptions qualify for a grant?

We support all adoptions. Domestic, international, private, open, kinship, foster, and so on. We work with all families, singles, all ages.

  • When does the application become available online?

Our ability to supply grants is based solely on funding. Our goal is to open applications once a quarter. We announce a few days in advance on Facebook and Instagram. Follow us there for updates!

  • How are grant recipients notified?

All grant recipients are notified directly via the email provided by our Grant Discernment Committee.

  • Can I apply more than once?

Yes, you may apply twice. Reach out with any questions!

  • What's the process if I'm awarded a grant?

Once you have received an email from our Grant Discernment Committee, you will receive an email with final instructions on how to claim your grant.

Checks are mailed within 30 days.

  • Do you award grants based on income?

There is no set limit on income though financial need is a factor in our review process.

Many other factors will also be considered.

  • How much are the grants for?

    For approved grant recipients:

    Matched families will receive $3,000.

Not-matched (yet!) families will receive $1,500.

  • What are the criteria for receiving a grant?

    The criteria is:
    - Past home study
    - For traditional adoptions, pre placement with a priority on matched families.
    - Willing to share your story widely

Our Grant Discernment Committee reads and sits with every single application we receive. We carefully consider if your adoption story fits within our mission and vision:

To fund adoption stories that influence OTHERS to act on behalf of the orphan and create a ripple effect of care.

Your story and its potential impact are our greatest determiners, followed closely by urgency and financial need.

  • Why do you focus on resources & education now?

We see a massive gap in the resources provided in the adoption world, along with seeing the adoptee's voice muffled. This leads to adoptees, birth, and adoptive families that can’t heal or flourish. Pre adoption education and post adoption care are so important! We work hard to stay up to date and provide resources that we’ve vetted and/or that were recommended by adoptees. Please reach out if you’re stuck in this area, we’d love to help you take a step forward.

  • Do you award grants for Kinship (Relative) Adoptions?

Yes, yes, 1000% yes. Keeping families together is the best-case scenario. We have a passion for working with families pursuing family preservation (when safe!) and open adoptions. We advocate for the adoptee voice and we’ve heard time and time again how important having ties to their bio family and culture, along with retaining that connection, is.
